Summer in Ireland

Summer is Mother Earth’s precious gift of sweetness to us—the season
of luscious fruits and lavish flowers,
of warm days and soft nights,
of relaxation and keeping our fear of winter darkness at bay.

It is a time to have fun and enjoy ourselves—a time to vacation and feel childlike and free for a while. It is also a time to assess our goals at the half-way point of the year (monitoring the plans we have seeded in the Spring).

As the warmth of the soil brings forth nourishment we are taught to nourish ourselves so that we too may grow and evolve.

Solstice in Latin means ‘to stand still’. And the sun does seems to stand still on June 21 as the Solstice begins and we enjoy the longest day of the year. We learn to stand still and honor the light that shines upon us and that light that shines within us.

This season has long been a time of celebration and ritual in every culture dating back millennium. We carry the rituals within us in our DNA and we knit the past, present and future together as we honor our instincts to celebrate the sun, moon, stars, life and living. In a metaphysical sense summer also represents prosperity because we are freely offered the gifts of Mother Earth—we need only accept the fruits, berries, nuts, water and sunshine. We are being taught that the universe will provide for us.

I’ve just returned from Ireland, the isle of Druids, magic and myth. It was wonderful to begin my summer celebration in the midst of Spring—a perfectly child-like decision to make! John and I immersed ourselves in the ancient traditions that still live, day and night, rain or shine in the sights and sounds of Galway, Donegal, Derry and Dromore.

If you’d like to see some photos of the megaliths and cliffs we visited, you can check out my Blog at: http://mythdoctor.blogspot.com. Come now. Enjoy this issue and I wish you a beautiful, relaxing and child-like summer. Blessings!

"Remember the wisdom of unpredictability and uncertainty so that you escape the prison of the known."...Deepak Chopra, M.D.

Myth and legend are the universe’s way of preserving crucial information and ideas.

They are secret, metaphorical tools to bridge the gap in generations and preserve the ancient wisdom for evolutionary growth — information that fools and politicians would squash.

Myths are remembered because they inspire our dreams, empower our goals and bolster hope and imagination within us. They are immune to destruction by evil kings, popes, politicians and greed.
From my earliest childhood, myths and legends have been my comfort, my mentors and my source of empowerment. They still remain my resource for creative expression and enlightenment.

One of the major principles and myths of ancient wisdom is “as above, so below.” As Spirit does, you do also. As the Universe does, you must emulate. There is the Macro Universe (all things) and the Micro Universe (you). I write this to set the stage for this fact: the universe is a myth maker (Macro); you are a myth maker (Micro). You are here to write the myth of who you are, where you came from, where you are going, and why. You are connected with all things, in all times past and future. Every sage, mystic and hierophant has stressed our oneness with all that is, was or ever will be.

Carl Jung, the brilliant psychologist believed in a collective unconscious—all things together in one dynamic Cosmos. He wrote about archetypes—universal patterns of personalities that we all inherit through our DNA or that we adopt. You have many archetypes in your personality—and you may adopt as many as you wish. It is empowering to write your own personal myth by allowing any number of archetypes to flower within you. Where have you walked as Heroine? Or Pioneer? Wizard? Goddess? Healer? Engineer? Wise Woman? Whatever you write, you will set those thoughts and actions into motion.

Here’s how to begin writing your myth: first, reject all the humble pie that’s been forced down your throat. Do not be humble! Be assertive. Be honest. Are you smart? Are you beautiful? Say so. Write it. Begin by writing something like this: Once upon a time, long, long ago and far, far away...or perhaps here and now in this time and place... there lived a beautiful brunette of robust figure and fine features. She was inquisitive, smart and sassy with a desire to live her dreams, but then a tragic twist of fortune befell her.

Then write a myth about how she (you) accomplished amazing things and became known as a healer for the ages.....or whatever it is you want to accomplish. Make your myth an on-going pilgrimage—always evolving, ever accepting awards and rewards.

This is a template you are constructing for the universe to follow. Make it grand and glorious. Write your myth with a flourish so that you may live with a flourish. And watch for my upcoming downloadable booklet “Write your Own Myth”. Joseph Campbell taught that we are our own myth and that we must write it, not just think it, to make our myth blossom and unfold.

Writing your own myth works very well with your journaling practice (see my Spring Equinox issue). Begin today. Now is always the right (write) time!

"Beauty doesn't hold still but changes with the seasons. You have it, no
matter what season you're in."...Kavlan Pickford

I use the Black Hat Sect method of Feng Shui.

Stand at the front door of your home facing into the house.

The back left 1/3 of your dwelling is your prosperity area. To energize your prosperity, add some red or purple to the room (pillows, flowers, paint, etc.)

Keep the lights on for several hours
if it’s a dark room. Get rid of any junk that is piled up including in closets and drawers; neatness results in order to your wealth.

If you have a jumbled area, your finances will be jumbled and disorganized. Remove any broken items, especially clocks that have stopped.

An aquarium is a nice addition—with gold fish. Gold needs no explanation. Fish mean prosperity because of their abundance—there are always more fish in the sea, lots of riches.
A candle brings the fire energy (life giving) to any room. A clock is also a nice addition—its continuous ticking introduces immediacy into your wealth. A mobile is nice too because movement draws the universe’s attention and auspicious opportunities will reveal themselves. Your finances will respond positively to all this attention.

One more hint: from the moment I began carrying 3 Chinese coins tied together with a red silk ribbon in my purse, it has been full. Feng Shui works!

"The most beautiful stones have been tossed by the wind and washed by the waters and polished to brilliance by life's strongest storms."

The Labyrinth is a fascinating link to the ancient Goddess spiritual practice encompassing mind, body and spirit.

Walking in circles is not mindless wandering, or a dizzying experience.

Walking the labyrinth is a direct link to the Divine Feminine within.

This is a glorious practice that puts you instantly in touch with the divine, and needs no ‘special’ intermediary to show you the way.
A labyrinth is not a maze. A maze is a man-made rather mean-spirited entrapment game that purposely gets you lost. The labyrinth, on the other hand, is based on the lost art of sacred geometry and you can not get lost, just as you can never be lost in Spirit—one of its key lessons.

The circular path leads you directly to the center where you may leave your burdens, and then that path guides you back out again, free, inspired, unencumbered. I’ve walked the most famous Chartres Labyrinth just outside Paris several times, a number of indoor and outdoor labyrinths in Ireland, a remote Viking nine circle labyrinth on the sea a few miles north of Gothenburg, Sweden, and several in California many, many times.

I come to the labyrinth to find peace, answers, inspiration and guidance.
I walk away with incredible insights that stay with me for months and years. When I was wandering in a mindless wilderness of career desert,
I discovered my divine purpose in the labyrinth. I’ve uncovered hidden fears and gratefully released them.

The myths and legends about the labyrinth and about your own mythical circuitous route to spirituality become clear as you walk the twists and turns that mimic your life path and lead you inexorably to your divinity. The labyrinth is a gift from the divine. Accepting the gift works wonders.

"The Three Wise Women would have: Asked Directions. Arrived on time. Helped deliver the baby. Cleaned the stable. Made a casserole. Brought practical gifts and."..there would be Peace on Earth.

Affirmation: Consciousness unfolding is to know yourself as perfectly unique.
This gorgeous, rare and expensive gemstone carries the mystical energy of consciousness unfolding.

Aquamarine is the color of a summer sea and calls forth the water elements of primal life, ancient wisdom and evolution.

It also enhances the life-giving fluidity of health and wellness.

Mined in Zambia and Mozambique, it has always been thought to repel danger and evil.
Sailors carried it with them on voyages to attract mermaids to aid their safe journey across the seas. It is so beautiful that it seems to be heavenly as well as a Mother Earth treasure.

When worn over the heart it energizes sacred purpose and vision. The metaphysical interpretation of water is consciousness (awareness of who you truly are; rebirth into your spiritual self).

It is interesting that water surrounds and protects the womb and breaks when we are ushered into this life journey. Aquamarine is beautiful and powerful. It’s very powerful to know who you are!

This is a one only Priestess Necklace (pictured).

Magic Square legends originated in most cultures in the early centuries. They were taught by the brilliant mathematicians Plato, Pythagoras and Agrippa who believed in the lost art of Sacred Geometry which held that if certain numbers were formed into a mathematically equal square they energized an area of magic around the person who viewed them or used them in ritual.

They are almost completely lost again. The Magic Square of the Moon below was believed to be especially effective under the Full Moon. The magic derives from the fact that the numbers arranged in a square of equal sides all add to the same total, coming and going, up and down and oft times even from a diagonal.

Cornelius Agrippa had this magic square engraved and wore it as a talisman for special favor with the heavens and his soul. Agrippa (1486-1535) wrote: “It is affirmed by Magicians of Ancient Wisdom that there are certain tables of numbers distributed to the seven planets, which they call the sacred tables of the planets, endowed with many, and very great virtues that represent that divine order of Celestial numbers—idea's of the divine mind, by means of the soul of the world.”

It was believed the soul would be reachable and available for consultation when this Magic Square was seen. I am going to test this theory and do a full moon journaling and drumming session under the full moon with this Magic Square as my guide. It sounds like a fascinating adventure. You might want to experiment too.

We are so blessed with a treasure house of hundreds of goddesses, symbols of the Divine Feminine, to inspire us that I am always astonished at our blessings... and yet so much in the dark about many of them.

I think that’s the case for Metis (pronounced METiss).

I’d never heard of her until I started a Goddess Receiving Circle and began researching the goddess.
In Greek, Metis means ‘wise counsel’. She is the symbol for practical and intellectual wisdom and she is the perfect goddess to call for when you need to understand a situation and act with wisdom and skill.

She is also perfect to help us embrace our own creativity and not be overshadowed by patriarchal and masculine forces. Call on Metis to make space in your life for solitude and reflection, to transform from a technical person into an artist, to discover what the next phase of your life is to be.

Remember the goddess is within you—Metis lies within your DNA—and therefore you are Metis with all the knowledge, wisdom and wise counsel you need.

When you are at a stage in life when you are a discerning combination of intuition, intellect and maturity (seasoned by life’s successes, failures and challenges) you are Metis and you are a power for yourself and those who seek your advice.

Congratulations! And come out, come out, wherever you are! You can also check out more goddesses in Jean Shinoda Bolen’s book ‘Goddesses In Older Women.” It’s brilliant.

I’ve worn so many hats in my life
it’s hard to know where to begin.

My careers have included:
Editor of Science of Mind magazine,
a monthly philosophy journal started
in 1929 by Ernest Holmes. With a
subscriber base of 90,000 readers.

Founding Editor/Designer of Inner
Visions. Publisher/Graphic Designer: SOS Press, which is still under
my ownership. And, a Spiritual Coach for 25 years.

My grandmother taught me to read tea leaves ...practiced to this day.

For 10 years I bred and showed Lhasa Apsos. Bred the Purina Dog Chow Top Show Dog of the Year and Best In Show Champion Yojimbo Orion (my other true love).

Of the 5 books that I have written, one was a bestseller on Amazon.com

I’ve been married 3 times, once to an abuser, once to a savior and now to my Soul Mate, John, for 30 years. Together, we have restored 8 fixer-upper houses, and live in one we can’t leave—a Craftsman in Los Angeles built in 1910. We owned and operated a 35’ cruiser named Odyssey, and conducted brunch cruises to Catalina. I have been blessed with 2 wonderful children (Karen and Stephen) and 3 great grandchildren (Stephanie, RJ and Matt).

Drumming is one of my passions on an ancient Celtic drum, the Bodhran and facilitating several Wise Woman Circles and full moon drumming. As a Storyteller/Jewelry Designer I design jewelry that tells stories to motivate and inspire women through beauty.

Born in the Year of the Dragon, I am a Virgo with an Aquarius Rising Sign ...a Feng Shui consultant with an ‘A’ type personality, who loves to knit, garden, travel, read and do Sudoku puzzles and Cryptograms. And, crazy about words, music, ancient wisdom, color, Mother Nature and animals. John calls me an introverted extrovert.

My genealogy that I am following goes back to Ireland, Germany and France. Each day I meditate, journal and chant. And I feel like I'm just getting started!

But wait ...think about it; you’ll see that you also wear many hats.
Why? Because women are fabulous multi-taskers!
