Welcome to the 3rd issue of The Alchemist
and to the glorious days of Autumn, my favorite season.

Growing up in Northern New York,
on the St. Lawrence River, has been imprinted on my heart and soul and year after year I miss the changing leaf colors, the crisp air that signals harvest, and the smell of burning leaves on a cool and moist September evening.
Plus it’s my birthday, and my theory is that everyone’s favorite season is the season when they entered onto this earth experience.

In all cultures, ancient and modern, the end of summer ushers in the season to collect the fruits (and veggies) of the planting/growing season, celebrate the harvest and the togetherness of the tribe, and prepare for the hardships of winter. Metaphysically, it is the season to acknowledge and accept the rewards for your efforts throughout the Spring and Summer and to mentally, emotionally and spiritually assess your progress in the latter part of the year and make adjustments.

Few people admit it, but California, specifically Los Angeles where I live, is a challenging place to live (Really! Paradise has it’s downside.) One of the challenges is that Nature does not remind Californian’s of the change of seasons and therefore the change to our spiritual focus. Working with Mother Nature in a seasonal dance is a huge blessing for most of the US and much of the globe. My observation is that the Southern California climate celebrates the ‘summer’ consciousness with little time for the eagerness of Spring, the harvest of Autumn and the reflections of Winter. Laid back is not necessarily the strongest quality for a commitment to spiritual evolution! And so I must try harder, look deeper, listen longer.

I really enjoyed writing this issue. It’s hard and firm in places (remember I warned you about the bumpy ride!) but the power of truth is always an evolutionary and alchemical step. Shall we step into this issue and ponder the insights I’d like to share with you? Then, we’re away.

But first let me wish you a colorful Autumn filled with the sights and sounds of Mother Earth dressed in her finest and simply reflecting your finest qualities.

The Druids always taught that to watch Nature is to see the hand of the Creator at work.

If you remember that as you stand transfixed by the beauty of the Aspens or the towering Oaks, you will be solidly anchored to your spiritual path. And now on to ...lies, miracles, drums and horses!

"All who wander are not lost."...

Since Epona is my current focus I think she’s insisting on being the featured Goddess in this issue.

She’s a powerful symbol for horses, stables, and horse women in Celtic and Roman Mythology and when horses were the only means of transportation, and central to survival, Epona was revered as the most important Goddess.

More images of her are found in archeological digs than any other image.
It was believed that Epona had the ability to take human form or horse form and that she was frequently seen as a strong, beautiful woman with a long mane of hair and as a magnificent strong horse.... And sometimes both.

In some countries it was believed she was a magical white horse that brought shamans to and from the spirit world. Epona’s concern was the health and safety of horses, foals and women and she was ever vigilant to their welfare.

She is also linked to dogs and birds and was considered a fertility symbol. Roses are considered Epona’s favorite flower and Rose Quartz is one of the healing stones she favored. She’s honored on December 18, very close to the beginning of the Winter Solstice, so I’ll remind you again about her in the next issue.

Metaphysically (more than physical) Epona symbolizes your freedom of movement (physical health and spiritual path) and your feminine ability to choose intuition and follow your instinct with strength and gentleness at the same time. Those inner gifts are powerful choices in moving forward with speed and grace on your evolutionary path.

She is a strong symbol for feminine independence and vitality, a Goddess to watch over us in this stressful and fast moving environment we now move in. Ride with her wherever you go! She’s a powerful friend.

"Don’t judge each day by the harvest you reap, but by the seeds you plant."...R.L.Stevenson

Amber is a fossil, a remnant of prehistoric life. It is a connection with the DNA of all creations on the planet.

Every piece of Amber is 30 to 90 million years old (90,000,000) which has trapped leaves, seeds, feathers, gems and perhaps even a snippet of dinosaurs and our great-great-great (and more great) grandmothers and grandfathers.

Imagine wearing a gorgeous piece of Amber that connects you with all your ancient genealogy, gifts, talents, wisdom and intuition.

When a woman wears Amber it becomes her Talisman (power piece).
As it rests over the heart chakra or throat chakra, you will feel the rising
of your intuitive gifts that uplift the inner awareness of your personal
beauty and genius.

Amber is an amazing gift from Mother Earth and you draw forth her blessings as you honor her treasures. The photo of the one-only piece of Butterscotch Amber shown here is sold, but I have more designs in Amber on my work table—in butterscotch yellow, orange and cream—as part of my new Gypsy Collection to energize freedom, creativity and intuitive abilities. For your special Gypsy necklace, email me.

Amber is a majestic representative of the Autumn season and represents beauty, power, as well as an astute mind (it is a real investment that appreciates in value with each year and most Amber necklaces become heirloom pieces to hand down from generation to generation).

"Never walk away from failure. On the contrary, study it carefully for its hidden assets." ...Michael Korda

We’ve been lied to.

Everyone acknowledges that fact now - scientists, scholars, spiritualists and seekers - know that to proclaim women as whores, devils, and witches who must be bought and sold, tortured, burned at the stake, scorned, and murdered at the whim of men, politics and religion is ’the big lie.’
Too late for the millions of women already slaughtered, however and those proclamations against women are etched in our ancient DNA and the molecular memory of every woman—consciously and subconsciously. As we come to terms with that we may move on.

The tools of the political and religious elite (ancient and modern) to wrest power away from women are called Reframing, Spin, Programming. It’s gilded today to mean savvy and sophisticated. It isn’t. It’s truth-twisting at its most dangerous.

To gain absolute power to your Cause and take power away from those deemed dangerous to the elite, all symbols and vocabulary associated with those named ‘heretics’ (or ‘traitors’ or ‘soft on crime’ or women) must be reframed and be associated with fear, hatred or made comical. Laughing at someone is almost more effective than slandering them!

Laugh at, lie, twist the meaning. Those are the tools. To destroy the Old Nature Religions it was necessary to twist the meaning of many things, including making the pentacle mean devil worship instead of its ancient meaning that women used to remember the 5 points of Creation—Air, Water, Earth, Fire and Spirit. It was critical to reframe the ancient word for a traditional healer—witch—into an evil woman who rides brooms, and keeps black cats to work black magic.

Re-program the honorable word ‘crone’ that described an elder, a wise woman of the village and twist it to mean a haggard old wretch, and then make it a final insult by reframing it as a disease.

Put a spin on the words priestess and goddess (the symbols for the Divine Feminine) and always have a smirk or make humiliating jokes so women will feel embarrassed to associate with their own divinity and power.

Take the beautiful tools of ancient female power—Talismans (gemstones as healing, powerful jewelry) and label them ‘silly trinkets’ or ‘unnecessary’, shallow’ worthless and stupid and you reframe female confidence in their own intuition and instinct.

I’ve watched this current Administration and other governments around the globe master the use of spin, reframing and programming tools to keep the old lies afloat to the detriment of women and children. I’m writing about lies toward women because for millennium our most important gift is our intuition and our ability to survive and know the truth.

The title of this newsletter is The Alchemist—meaning the ability to change lead into gold, problems into solutions, and defeats into triumphs. Those are our sacred gifts for survival and we activate our Alchemist thinking when we seek the truth in symbols, words, strategies, and in the leaders we elect and the things we honor. When women begin to hold ourselves and everyone else accountable to Truth in every interaction in everyday living we will empowers ourselves, our children and the global community.

Our job—our sacred purpose—as women is to recapture our empowered thinking so that we may energize the new paradigm of leadership—nurturing, consensus and connectedness—and neutralize the brutality, and warmongering of the divide-and-conquer consciousness now running amok on this planet.

I ask you now in your own small way, in your house, at your desk, at the market, to be conscious of your choices, honor your intuition, your instinct, see the truth behind the slogans, the symbols, the spin. Wear a powerful Talisman as your protector. Name a lie a lie and the truth the truth. It’s a giant step in a minuscule format, but if we each see the truth in our individual lives, we can set it free. For that thought alone, I am encouraged.

"The Three Wise Women would have: Asked Directions. Arrived on time. Helped deliver the baby. Cleaned the stable. Made a casserole. Brought practical gifts and."..there would be Peace on Earth.

Sound heals, especially the beat of the drum, especially held in the arms of a woman, and magnified tenfold by the light of the Full Moon.

Ancient cultures and some modern ones understand the connection between the drum beat and the heart beat and the ability of the sound to call forth abilities we don’t think we have and healings now labeled miracles.
My current drum is an ancient Celtic drum called the Bodhran. It’s held close to the body and it activates every molecule of joy and something else I can’t even verbalize. I’m exhilarated as I play, no matter how tired I am when I started or how irritated, or frustrated. I calm down, and happiness fills me up.

I’ve also played the giant Japanese drum, Taiko, with its thunderous roar and powerful melody. It's thrilling. Drumming activates every cell, energizes every ancient connection to your ancestors and revitalizes your sacred purpose and dreams as it re-shapes physical and metaphysical reality.

If you’re a woman in a deteriorating work or relationship environment, buy a drum. If you can’t buy one use a frying pan and a spoon until someone gives you one or you can afford one. It’s the beat, the rhythm, the physical movement —especially under the Full Moon that initiates the remarkable healing in mind, body, soul and spirit. I LOVE to drum and I know you will too.

And if you already drum—as thousands of women do in drum circles around the country —please share with others how personally invigorating it is. The more drummers we have, the more healers in force. Ah-woman (in place of A-men).

"It's a funny thing about life; if you refuse to accept anything but the best, you very often get it."...Somerset Maugham

I’ve actually nagged about affirmations for many years and in my books I’ve written about the magic and power of words and how you say and write them.

I’ve combined affirmations with journaling in many of my workshops to demonstrate how miraculous these two spiritual forces for evolution are.

I’m not sure anyone is listening, but I’m certainly convincing myself, so that’s a good thing (as Martha would say.)

I will share with you that if you just did 5 minutes of writing your affirmations down every morning, you’d be amazed at the things that would manifest in your life.

Caution: be careful what you write—just as you must be careful what you wish for. Be certain you’re very clear about the affirmative sentences you write. Be specific, not general. Be clear, be brief. Use strong words—as in I OWN my prosperity today.

Don't write in the negative or be sarcastic (The universe doesn't respond to sarcasm and unfortunately it responds waaaay quickly to negative orders). Be passionate, energized as you write or say your affirmations. Don’t beg. You are communicating with an energy that is part and parcel of who you are. Be assertive! Here are a few affirmations you can start writing today. Be sure to email me about your miraculous results. And I do expect miracles.

"Sell your cleverness and buy bewilderment."...Rumi

I was given The Tao of Equus by a friend because I’ve created a new jewelry collection for horse women modeled on the great Celtic Horse Goddess, Epona.

The Tao of Equus by Linda Kohanov with the subtitle of A Woman’s Journey of Healing & Transformation through the Way of the Horse is remarkable in its insight and intuitive understanding of the intelligence and healing abilities of horses.
It also confirms every idea I ever had about the magical connection women have with horses (beginning with the Unicorn!)

And the truth is that more woman than men own horses. More women than men work with horses. More women than men understand the healing energy of the horse.

I recommend this book to everyone who wants a greater awareness of healing with animals and a deeper understanding of horses. I want to quote from the Tao of Equus page 302 which mentions Creation’s Heartbeat by Linda Schierse Leonard who tells us of the redemptive message in the nomadic pastoral lifestyle aligned with horses, Lao Tzu and Christ.

“In these dark times we need to acknowledge and draw on a new feminine energy—one that is both gentle and caring, not controlling or afraid. We need a feminine force that is wildly ecstatic yet resolute and tenacious enough to move through the Worlds’ Dark Night. We need to be conscious, courageous and patient enough to descend into the psyche's depths to wait for revelation there and accept it.

And she tells also of the Way of the Reindeer: “Today we search for sacred spaces in which we can move freely, according to our nature. Our search is spiritual and physical and the regions that beckon to us are wilderness—the vast and empty areas where silence and solitude allow original vision.

Instead of the archetypal stories of possession of the land and of conquest of other peoples, by which our cultures have defined themselves and by which we have lived, we need to create a new, more compassionate and caring myth to live by, one of reverence for nature.

We need to relearn the earth’s cosmic melodies and follow its rhythms as the Sami and the Even people follow the reindeer. Understanding the ways of the people who follow the reindeer may be part of a new story for the next century, a story of redemption that many of us just now are beginning to write.

Perhaps if we can release the reindeer spirit inside ourselves, we can learn to run freely across the land without possessing it.”

"The world would have you agree with its dismal dream of limitation.
But the light would have you soar like the eagle of your sacred visions."...Alan Cohen

I teach and coach personal power in Talismans for women through my jewelry designs and their accompanying storybooks.

I tell stories about Talisman’s that symbolize beauty as a power and a purpose.

I design jewelry to be worn as a Talisman and I wear one almost all the time.

The reason why it is imperative that every woman in every field wear her own unique power piece is found in the definition: An object with magic signs or symbols and believed to bring magic and supernatural powers of protection and wisdom to the bearer (wearer).

In almost every cave drawing, pottery or mosaic of ancient women leaders you will note they are wearing a large piece of jewelry, most with a huge central gemstone. That’s a Talisman, a power, protection and confidence enhancer.

Ancient women understood the envy of men without power. They wisely used the energy of gemstones and symbols to reinforce their leadership skills to heal, guide, and restore nations and peoples. They needed courage and so they harnessed the energizing force of Turquoise. They used Coral for passion and Amber for Intuition and Crystals for vision and prophecy.

The Wise Woman Elders then created myths and legends so that women down through the Ages would always have a source to remember their connection to the knowledge and power of gemstones, talismans and leadership. So they would never become slaves or worse.

But the Female Elders died, the symbols were stolen or ‘spun’ into negativity and the myths were buried under millennium of untruths and the knowledge of the Talisman was forgotten or lost. Until now. And now I urge you to place your own unique power piece on your body and feel the power coursing through you. Feel the wisdom rising to become your mentor.

To understand the physical, metaphysical and mythical energy of gemstones and symbols, my book Legends of the Stones is a guide. To find your power piece you can visit the pendant and necklace page of my website. Now....be the power you were meant to be and wear a Talisman as often as possible (and keep the power message a secret). You will never be the same. You will be more.

I’ve worn so many hats in my life
it’s hard to know where to begin.

My careers have included:
Editor of Science of Mind magazine,
a monthly philosophy journal started
in 1929 by Ernest Holmes. With a
subscriber base of 90,000 readers.

Founding Editor/Designer of Inner
Visions. Publisher/Graphic Designer: SOS Press, which is still under
my ownership. And, a Spiritual Coach for 25 years.

My grandmother taught me to read tea leaves ...practiced to this day.

For 10 years I bred and showed Lhasa Apsos. Bred the Purina Dog Chow Top Show Dog of the Year and Best In Show Champion Yojimbo Orion (my other true love).

Of the 5 books that I have written, one was a bestseller on Amazon.com

I’ve been married 3 times, once to an abuser, once to a savior and now to my Soul Mate, John, for 30 years. Together, we have restored 8 fixer-upper houses, and live in one we can’t leave—a Craftsman in Los Angeles built in 1910. We owned and operated a 35’ cruiser named Odyssey, and conducted brunch cruises to Catalina. I have been blessed with 2 wonderful children (Karen and Stephen) and 3 great grandchildren (Stephanie, RJ and Matt).

Drumming is one of my passions on an ancient Celtic drum, the Bodhran and facilitating several Wise Woman Circles and full moon drumming. As a Storyteller/Jewelry Designer I design jewelry that tells stories to motivate and inspire women through beauty.

Born in the Year of the Dragon, I am a Virgo with an Aquarius Rising Sign ...a Feng Shui consultant with an ‘A’ type personality, who loves to knit, garden, travel, read and do Sudoku puzzles and Cryptograms. And, crazy about words, music, ancient wisdom, color, Mother Nature and animals. John calls me an introverted extrovert.

My genealogy that I am following goes back to Ireland, Germany and France. Each day I meditate, journal and chant. And I feel like I'm just getting started!

But wait ...think about it; you’ll see that you also wear many hats.
Why? Because women are fabulous multi-taskers!
